March Madness

March Madness is a fitting term for this month…
I have been much too busy to blog at all.

I’ve had several things I have wanted to write, but time has slipped through my hands –

If you never slow down, you never grow old – – – right?

Ring Tones

When I was writing WIDOMTGB Part 2, I thought those that know me well may think it’s odd that I have a U-2 song to alert me my boss is calling, so – here’s a brief explanation of my ring tones.

I have special ring-tones for a few (very few) special people (don’t be offended if you’re not listed) in my life:

1. My wife…  currently it is set to “I See the Light” – from the Tangled soundtrack.
Why?  Not only because my wife is Rapunzel –

I am unashamed-ly in love with a Disney Princess.
Since she loves me back – yes, I can relate to the Disney version of a worthless thief turned prince charming.
But also because we both spent:

All those days chasing down a daydream,
All those years living in a blur…
All that time never truly seeing things the way they were,

until together we saw the light…

And it’s warm and real and bright
And the world has somehow shifted
All at once everything is different,
Now that I see You.”

2. My Pastor & Assistant Pastor…  If these incredibly important people are taking the time to call a little guy like me – it is important.  And for me to speak to giants like these men, I must be prepared spiritually. (Sincerely – for those of few you that still don’t think I can be serious, I am)
The special tune that gets my mind on God is Casting Crown’s “Glorious Day”  What an awesome message:

Living He loved me
Dying He saved me
Buried He carried my sins far away!

The part I have on my phone though is:

Jesus came forth to
Be born of a virgin,
Dwelt among men,
My example is He.

Mainly because those two men also live that example…  I love them!

3. My boss…  I really do have a good boss.  BUT the special ring for his calls is to serve more as a warning than anything else –  To let me know:  Hey!  The DUTY is calling!  And so I chose:  “Beautiful Day”

Not for the lyrics or message per se.  Although I do think it has a good message:

According to Bono, “Beautiful Day” is about “a man who has lost everything, but finds joy in what he still has.” – from Wikipedia’s “Beautiful Day” page

One reason is because I need the reminder that whatever he needs – it’s still a Beautiful Day.
Another reason is because I can’t help but be positive with the words “it’s a beautiful day” blasting from my hip.
The final reason is because when I answer I greet him with the words:  It’s a beautiful day!
So – whatever I may have done wrong (me?  never!) – whatever cuss words he is wanting to fling at me (he doesn’t ever do that really) – whatever bad news he may want to deliver…  He knows from the start he will have to beat my optimism into the ground first!

And I do believe, that automatically makes his day better.

Just What Kind Of Doctor Are You?!?

I have a friend that likes to ask this of me.

It’s an incredibly intrusive question – really.

My Boy & I

I don’t go up to the teller at the bank and ask:  “What kind of teller are you?”

Or the cashier at the grocery store:  “What kind of cashier are you?”

Or the lady at the counter of 7-11: “What kind of convenient store clerk are you?”

Or the guy in the white SUV next to me at the stop light: “What kind of driver are you?”
…well, there was that one time.

Or the waitress at Chili’s: “What kind of waitress are you?”

Or my boss: “What kind of…   – nevermind.”

Or my wife: “What kind of chef, educator, custodial engineer, hostess, laundry guru, chauffeur, repunzel-hair-wielding, accountant, coupon-clipper, domestic goddess are you?”

Anna & Afore-Mentioned-Wife

I mean seriously, these things are ob-vi-ous.

Just what kind of doctor am I?!?  Duh…

Because I can – That’s Why!

I just got to thinking… Very dangerous and uncharted territory.
Here’s the odd train of thought I was riding:

Self: Man, you are OCD for sure!

Me: Yup, maybe you should get medication for that.

Self: No way dude – I hate pills. Besides, I’d probably get addicted to them. Get all strung out and become a street walker.

Me: Whatever. They’re legal… Nothing wrong with taking prescription medication.

Self: Oohhh – WWLD? (What Would Lonnie Do? – click to find out) He would not like me even considering the thought.

Me: You’re not really considering it anyhow.

Self: You’re right, I’m not… But there really are tons of people out there living on prescriptions they don’t really need.  Many just because “it’s legal” and some family member, friend, or “professional” say they need it don’t even think about it…

Me: Preach it brother.  And that goes into all kinds of areas of their lives…  Justify all kinds of junk – just because they’re free to do it.  They don’t seem to worry about the consequences until it’s way too late.  Alcohol, tobacco, porn – lots of less harmful things too… Credit cards, junk food (I’m no health nut though), gambling, even video games, entertainment choices, electronic distractions…

Self: Ok, you’re starting to sound Amish… Are you sure you’re not Amish?

Me: Are you judging me? And when did we switch roles? You were the one talking me off the meds, now I’m convincing you – weird.

Self: I before E, except after C – weird?

Me: Huh?

Self: Weird – the E is before the I.

Me: Oooookay…  Maybe you need some medica- nevermind.

Self: You have to get back to work.

Me: Work – yes, that reminds me… I had a boss one time that said: “Just because I CAN do something, doesn’t mean I SHOULD do it.”  …can’t remember what “it” was though…

Self: Well, how fitting, since I was just trying to tell you that same thing.

Me: Reminds me of a few scriptures:

All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any. Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body. And God hath both raised up the Lord, and will also raise up us by his own power. 1 Corinthians 6:12-14 KJV

All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.1 Corinthians 10:23 KJV

For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God. Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king. 1 Peter 2:15-17 KJV

Self: Thanks for the Word… Now, seriously, get back to work.

Me: Yes sir.
