To Do in 2012: Happy New Year

Twenty-Twelve is history.
The Mayans have disappeared…
Twinkies have disappeared…
The Federal Government has solved all of our economic woes…
Oh.  Wait.  Maybe not.

At least I don’t have to answer for the government.
Let’s see how I did on my goals…

1.  Drop the PMI on the mortgage.                                                Goal #1 – Check.

2.  Sell the boat…  SOLD!!!!                                                           Goal #2 – Check.

3.  Remodel the master bathroom for the wife…                           Goal #3 – Check.

4.  See Italy.                                                                                   Goal #4 – Check.
Still haven’t blogged about it though.

5.  Put ONE of my million dollar ideas into action.                         Goal #5 – Well…
Well…  Well…  Well…  Got it started, but I allowed it to fizzle.
Which is good – it gives me something to do in 2013.

6.  Learn to be moved with compassion…                                       Goal #6 – Check???
You can read a little about this by clicking here.
This is more of an intangible goal.
I’m not real sure how to simply check this off.
Next year I’ve got an idea of a bit more concrete way to accomplish this.

7.  Read the Bible through in chronological order.                        Goal #7 – Check.
Finished is yesterday, actually.
Time to use today to decide which plan to use for 2013.

8.  Make sure AFT Sunday School hits that top branch…                Goal #8 – Check???
Another intangible.
How do you measure it?

So, out of 8 goals – 5 are undoubtedly accomplished, 1 stalled, and 2 are difficult to measure…
All in all…  I’ll take it.
2013 – maybe I’ll have 2,013 items on my list…  That would be something!

Q3 Update: To Do in 2012

2012…
Nearly complete.
100 days left.
Let’s see where I’m at –

I’ll definitely have to make time to blog about the trip!
What an opportunity!

5.  Put ONE of my million dollar ideas into action.                         Goal #5 – Well…
This has completely stalled…  I’ll have to schedule at least a short period of time each week to work on it.
As mentioned in Q1 update – it’s not really one of my million dollar ideas, but something even better really!

6.  Learn to be moved with compassion…                                       Goal #6 – In Progress.
You can read a little about this by clicking here.
Again, this won’t ever be simply checked off.
Someday’s it is very difficult to allow compassion to have its way.

7.  Read the Bible through in chronological order.                        Goal #7 – In Progress.
Day 265 – 72.3% of the way through.  Only 100 days left.  I can’t help but believe it does me good – regardless of how many times I read this book there is always another lesson learned, another verse that jumps out at me, another act of God’s love revealed.

8.  Make sure AFT Sunday School hits that top branch…                Goal #8 – In Progress.
We’re going to keep jumping!
We have such an awesome team of people, doing great things to further God’s work in Oklahoma City.

So, out of 8 goals – 4 are 100% complete,  1 is stalled (but I’ll kick it in gear), and the other 3 are actively in progress…  Gotta Keep On Truckin’!

Q1 Update: To Do in 2012

The year 2012 is nearly a quarter of the way through.
If you had a penny for each day of the year you would only have $2.79 left…
That isn’t much, we better make it count.

1.  Drop the PMI on the mortgage.                                                Goal #1 – Check.

2.  Sell the boat…  SOLD!!!!                                                          Goal #2 – Check.
I already miss it…

BUY ME!!!!

Sold

3.  Remodel the master bathroom for the wife…                        Goal #3 – In Progress.
Counter top, vanity, stool, shower base, vent, and fixtures are bought.  I’m ready to start Friday evening!

4.  See Italy.                                                                               Goal #4 – In Progress.
Our flight leaves in 158 days, 11 hours, and 58 minutes… But who’s counting?

To see this in person!

5.  Put ONE of my million dollar ideas into action.                    Goal #5 – Well…
I’ve been working on one of my not-so-million-dollar ideas…  It’s something I’ve thought about for years and am finally putting into action.  But it’s got nothing to do with any kind of income.

6.  Learn to be moved with compassion…                               Goal #6 – In Progress.
You can read a little about this by clicking here.  I believe you will find it an interesting read at the least.
This is not really a goal that was set to say: “Ah ha!  On March 27, 2012 Giddy learned to be moved with compassion.”  It’s more of an attitude, spirit, and all around way of life —-  I’ll probably not really know my level of success until I stand before the judgment seat.

I do know I witnessed a OKC Police Officer move with compassion today (no, I did not get pulled over).
Most people looking on would have thought the man was a heartless and cruel jerk – I saw some folks that witnessed him in action cringe…  But really – he was trying to show a strung out drug addict she could live a better life.  Compassion isn’t always warm and fuzzy, kiss-y hug-y.

7.  Read the Bible through in chronological order.                 Goal #7 – In Progress.
Day 85 – 23.6% of the way through.  I’ve got to say I really enjoy using a couple of apps to complete this daily.
Nothing beats the old “hard copies” I have (My trusty faded and torn KJV, my hard covered KJV Study Bible, and my newer black-back Message) – BUT used in conjunction with the You Version’s app on my phone that lists the chapters to read daily (I’ve got a handy Widget on my HTC Merge) as well as tracks my progress and alarms me each day to read if I have not.  The other app I am falling in love with is Bible. Is – I’ve come to enjoy listening to the chapters as I read along – the dramatizations are pretty engaging… even through genealogies and lists of inheritances.

8.  Make sure AFT Sunday School hits that top branch…       Goal #8 – In Progress.
Much of what is said about #6 above is true for #8.  There are no hard and fast rules to determine how high is high.  There isn’t any quantifier on the planet that can really say where I’m at with this.
BUT, as the old man on the park bench observed, “I’ve never seen that squirrel get to the top branch…  But I’ve never seen him fall either.”

Super Squirrel – Why Not?

So, out of 8 goals I have 2 completed and the other 6 actively in progress…  23.6% of the way through 2012, and 25% of the way through my list –

So far, so good.

To Do in 2012

So here’s my “To Do” list for 2012…
In no particular order.

1.  Drop the PMI on the mortgage.
I really want the whole thing paid off – quickly – but I don’t think I can manage that this year.
I can manage, however, lowering the principal enough to drop the extra insurance costs – and still be able to accomplish the rest of this list.

2.  Sell the boat…  anyone interested in buying?
I’ll be posting it to Craig’s list later this week (hopefully).

BUY ME!!!!

Click Me, Buy ME!!!

It’s a beautiful little Ebbtide Dynatrak fishing/ski boat with a great engine, brand new wiring, and solid hull – I love it!  It’s just a bit too small for the wife, 3 kids, and myself (Kim wants me to buy a yacht…  no, not really).  Therefore we keep it parked at the lake and rarely take it out.  If I sell it, I can –

3.  Remodel the master bathroom for the wife…
By remodel, I mean replace the tile, completely take out the tub/shower and replace it with a custom-built tiled shower stall.  Probably new light fixtures and medicine cabinets – the throne, sink, and cabinets will stay (I think).  Between Tony and I (and YouTube DIY videos) we’re creative and handy enough to accomplish the task.

OR (not and) replace the carpet in the house with wood and tile.
Although… when she wants something, I can’t resist – maybe we’ll do both this year.

4.  See Italy.
In person, I mean.  My wife has always dreamed of going to Italy, and as I just mentioned – I can’t resist.  After 15 years (yes…  she’s old enough to have been married for 15 years) of putting up with me she deserves a vacation like this.

I’ve always wanted to check out Pompeii, ride the canals in Venice, look at real Michelangelo masterpieces, and have a word with the pope…  (no, not really)

To see this in person!

For all of you wondering how we’ll pay for such a trip while completing 1 and 3 – remember #2, I have a boat for sale (did I mention it’s gold plated? – no, not really)…  We’ll be hitch-hiking the whole way over there, and will probably run out of funds before being able to make it home – we’ll become Roaming Romans.

5.  Put ONE of my million dollar ideas into action.
About eight years ago I had an idea to build a franchise of a particular restaurant in a particular location near our home at the time.  I spoke to a few friends about it – and just about convinced myself to do it.

But, then life and common sense got in my way and the idea was shelved.  Two years ago someone else built the exact restaurant in the exact location I had in mind and the line on opening day was literally a mile long…
D’oh!

I’ve got other things I really need to just do…  So I think this year I will choose one of my smaller ideas and see what happens with it.

6.  Learn to be moved with compassion…
It’s just a thought I’ve been kicking around for a while – maybe I’ll be able to explain it in a post soon, maybe not.

7.  Read the Bible through in chronological order.
I’ve read it through more than once.  In chronological order at least once as well.  It’s never gotten old to me and I love reading it over and over again.

8.  Make sure AFT Sunday School hits that top branch…
There is a lot of back story to this and also no way it’s #8… I was just making sure these last few words are freshest on any reader’s mind.
I don’t know that I was very “effectual” in communicating my passion, and vision for Sunday School and the Route Ministry’s at church the other day…  But I can say I’ve never felt like I’ve been feeling lately.

Divorce, abuse, drugs, peer pressure – the list is long.  Kid’s everywhere are experiencing things they are not designed to experience – and if I (we) can help point them in the right direction, and connect them with God, then they stand a chance of making it in this world despite whatever they face.  I (we) can’t control or protect them from their families (sad but true sometimes), neighborhoods, school yards – but for a couple of hours each week I (we) can make sure they know there is hope and Someone has a great plan and life for them to live…

No doubt there’s more items I haven’t listed – but I’ve exceeded my word limit… and have to get my rowdy kids tucked in bed –
